REVIEW
Yeah
No
This week was not a good week. Ate all the junk food, doom scrolled into the night, cried at celebrity’s passing, cheered for new babies, crashed out over stupid Instagram reels, and just yeah. From what I can recall I did not do well on any of the tasks.
So Dolly Partons passing. I never had that life changing moment from her. However her music was still there in the background of growing up. I lived in the wilds of colorado mountians listening to a lot of country music. Dolly was one of those legends who I would hear every now and then. Granted to me, her music was a touch too twangy for my over like, but thats besides the point. What I loved about Dolly was her personality, her no takers, literal sunshine and sparkles, and always lived on the bright side of life. She had the iconic body, the hair, the smile, and the laugh. Her entire being was so pure and wholesome. Just thinking about everything she has contributed to the world – her reading program by sending out books to those who simple bothered to ask, a theme park, SHE HELPED FUND THE COVID VACCINE for heavens sake! And those are the basic front runners that are on top of the mind. Her acting career was wonderful from my understanding, I havent seen many of her movies but now I really want to find them and see what all the hype is about.
Now with Tim Curry. I have a little more relatability with Tim. From his voice acting to his live performances. He was the voice, the clown, the Legend. Way back to the earliest days of his voice acting in Fern Gully as that way too sexy smog oil monster thing, I didnt even know it was him. Hell, I didnt realize that he voice Nigel Thornberry and now I can’t unhear it. He is one of those actors who I grew up with and greatly enjoyed. I never watched in the original IT, but I LOVED HIM in Rocky Horror Picture Show, and I can never forget him in Clue. Mr Body’s bodys gone! Its such a treat. So I think his loss hit me harder.
Regardless both of their passings was something I never expected. Like, its one of those moments where you just – always had them around to go to. They are always there. Then – theyre not. Pretty much like any other familiar loved one, their sudden absence hits so damn hard.
My own experience with grief and loss has always been a weird one. Ive always been alone when anyone has passed, both grandfathers, my grandmother, I’ve just – dealt with it alone. And I’ve just dealt with that. Yes I cried and grieved and felt hollower and hollower with each passing, and just felt even more distant to the world each time. My first personal real experience with death was loosing my beloved Charlie dog. He was aging and it was an act of kindness to let him go. I dont think I ever really healed from it and thus buried, like what I have done with everyone else. What changed atleast in that case was my dad – the one man who does not know how to handle any sort of things like this and is just as good at pulling a rug over emotions – was there with me in that horrific moment. And I couldn’t be more grateful that he was there.
Loosing celebrities is a parasocial relationship to most degrees. But the loss can be just as, if not more, impactful. It opens up old wounds and memories, and for me, it reminds me that I never really resolved any of my own loss. I’ve gotten really good at burying all those pesky emotions under empty bottles. And I hate that.
